Courtney Love is America's Sweetheart!

Courtney Love
America’s Sweetheart

Musician. Songwriter. Actress. Activist. Celebrity. Provocateur. There are few artists who fit into all of the above categories, performers whose life and work are impossible to pigeonhole. There is only one Courtney Love.

“AMERICA’S SWEETHEART” is Love’s eagerly anticipated solo debut, the follow-up to Hole’s two RIAA platinum-certified major label releases, 1994’s classic “LIVE THROUGH THIS” and 1998’s Grammy Award-nominated “CELEBRITY SKIN.” The album is currently set for release on February 10, 2004 – right on time for Valentine’s Day.
The most exhilarating record of her career, “AMERICA’S SWEETHEART” is pure, unadulterated Courtney – raw and relentless, smart and brassy, candid and uncompromising. Penned by Courtney, as well as in partnership with Linda Perry (Pink, Christina Aguilera), songs like the ultramega “All The Drugs In The World” or the very personal “Uncool,” co-written by Love and the legendary lyricist Bernie Taupin, are full-blown expressions of the songwriter’s singular worldview. The album’s volatile first single, “Mono,” is a defiant statement of purpose, Love’s battle cry to the so-called New Rock Revolution – “Is this the part in the book that you wrote where I gotta come save the day?/Did you miss me?”
Among the record’s many other unforgettable moments is the tender “Hold On To Me.” The track – produced by Virgin Chairman & CEO and Grammy-winner Matt Serletic – is a major musical departure for Courtney and a career highlight. The emotional centerpiece of “AMERICA’S SWEETHEART” may well be the epic “Sunset Strip.” The evocative song sees Courtney offering an expert dissection of El Lay dreams of fast times and short lives, noting that “Look at me for the very last time/see if you find the life in my eyes/I won't fade, no way, not from sorrow.”
“AMERICA’S SWEETHEART” was produced by a trio of today’s best studio collaborators: Josh Abraham (Staind), Matt Serletic (matchbox twenty, Santana, Aerosmith), and Love’s longtime associate James Barber (Ryan Adams). The album sees Love’s vocals and guitars backed by a stellar lineup of musicians, including guitarists Wayne Kramer (MC5), Scott McCloud (Girls Against Boys), Jerry Best (Dio), drummer Samantha Maloney (Hole, Motley Crue) and Kim Deal (Pixies, Breeders)

Love plans to put together an all-new, all-female band. The group – anchored by Maloney – will include a guitarist and bassist discovered via a full-page ad in The Village Voice calling for musicians who “look like a Goddess. We like Emily the Strange, Lolita Goth, Patty Schemel’s drumming, Nuggets, and Performance the movie.”
