The Man with the X Factor
Jai: The last time I saw you was on the set for your last video 'Being Nobody'
Richard X: Yes, I remember being very tired and hungry
J: Did that fulfil your expectation, the single?
X: Well I didn't really have any expectations, I think it gave me an insight into the world of pop music that I haven't seen previously, it beat a lot of me; it took a lot out of me.
J: Really, what about commercially?
X: Commercially it took a lot out of me as well, it did really well which was kind of surprising...shame about Gareth and Mystique but there you go what can we do about them, they ruined it for everyone!
J: The third single coming up is a...
X: Are you counting the freak (Sugababes 'Freak Like Me') now?
J: I am actually, can we count that.
X: I don't know
J: Is it going to be on the album?
X: It is on the album yeah, but it's kind of not really me is it?
J: I don't know, well I think it is.
X: Well it is kind of yeah but it's cheating a bit, well if you want to embellish it we can.
J: Yeah, let's embellish it a bit. So there's the third single coming out with Kellis 'Finest Dreams'. Can you tell us how that collaboration came about?
X: I saw Kellis a year ago at a NERD gig in Shepperd's Bush, it was like a youth club it really was, proper star glamour. She'd heard a few things that I'd done for Virgin before and she liked my sound, I think her exact words were I had 'Hot shit' which took me back.
J: Took you back to what?
X: Took me back to my youth, no - she was very complimentary and I ended up later that year working with Diddy and she was also present for the week so we spent it in Ibiza doing a few demos and things so when I asked her to do the Finest Dreams thing she seemed to understand a little bit more. |
