Turin Brakes interview
First off, I think congratulations are in order for Ollie who is a brand new dad.
O: Yeah, I had a small child two weeks ago. Well I dint have a small child but someone close to me did. I'm not really here, I'm still in nappy changing mode in my brain!
You must be knackered?
O: Just a little bit tired. Everything is becoming more surreal. But its good fun.
Cool. So that's a brand new baby and a brand new album in one month?
O: Yeah it's a double release. Its a bit silly having a baby and putting an album out at the same time but these things happen and I think it will be good luck for us, having a child.
'JackInABox' is now finished and will be hitting the shops soon. How does it feel to have it done and dusted?
G: So far pretty good. We've just been looking at the art work so it's not yet finished finished. Its kind of exciting because when it gets release it takes on its own life, kind of like having a new baby and when they get to
16? They have their own life.
O: An android! A musical android.
Is making an album the most enjoyable part of being in a band?
O: This time it was. We recorded it in a way we've been thinking we want to record a record since signing a deal. We built our own studio and took our time and did it at our own leisure and made a record which was very honest to what we were feeling at the time. It's more honest than 'Ether Song' which was the one before. Because I think we were just happier because we were producing it ourselves and engineering it ourselves. There wasn't anyone to talk to- we would just walk in when we felt like it and recorded when we felt like it, which did make a big difference to the atmosphere of the album. |
