Cassius Give Us The Lowdown on Their New Album!
We havent heard from you for a little while. What have you been up to?
Eh, we did a lot of music. We did just record the new one, it took us a long time.
Is that Im A Woman?
No, the whole album. It took us a long time, and Im a Woman is one of the tracks. So weve been a lot of, eh, a lot in the studio. And a little holiday sometimes (laughs). You know, normal life.
So how many tracks have you got for the new album?
Eh, 13
And its all finished?
Yeah, everything is finished, we got it yesterday in fact. So weve been listening and talking to the record people. We did have to change it one time in the order, and everything is good. The first track is going to be 'Im A Woman.'
And it features JB. How was it to work with her?
Oh. It was great. You know we saw her, I think, eh, in Miami, something like three years ago. And she was really slamming and the whole nightclub went mad, and eh, so we asked the guy, it was Eric Morillo, and we knew him, you know, do you think we could meet up? And he give us a number and we talked to her and met up in London and after we went to a studio and tried to do some things and at the end we had a track. It was really a very very good experience. Very, how can we say, enlightening. She was great. Now shes something like a friend.
Thats really cool, because to many shes a bit of a legend?
Definitely, because you know we didnt know everything, but I knew, eh, like just one part of her, of the legend, but after, I went into her and I went She did so many records! Wow! (laughs). But yeah, shes cool, very cool.
The new single's quite a bit different from the last records weve had from you - say 1999 or La Mouche - that was all more filtered disco, you could say more French. Do you think youve developed a lot more since then?
Yeah, exactly, its a big development, its like, eh, when you live everything is changing every year, and I think when youre into music you have to do the same. You have to represent you as you are now, so it has to change. We could have done a filtered, sampled one as before but we had and we had a reaction against so many records done with just a eh, beat and a sample, and it made us a bit fed up so we had to do something else. You know to create something, eh, musical and try to not do like everybody and to be different. |
