A CAREER HIGHLIGHT album from this American legend that explores the Blues’ darker roots. With guitar by Charlie Sexton, harp by the man himself and songs from Ben Harper, Randy Newman, Eddie Harris and Townes Van Zandt this album rocks, rolls, boogies and blows all pretenders out of the water.

Charlie Musselwhite was born in rural Mississippi, but it was when he moved to Memphis in the ‘50’s that he discovered his real calling. After a spell of running Moonshine he eventually found himself in at the birth of rock and roll, hanging out with Elvis, Jerry Lee and Johnny Cash – learning along the way to drink deep, comb his hair right and play the hell out of both the harp and guitar. Eventually he moved to Chicago and the Blues clubs where he learned his craft with the true giants of the Blues – Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little (and Big) Walker and John Lee Hooker.

He released his first solo album in 1966 and has been one of the driving forces behind the roots of the Blues ever since. “Sanctuary” is his first album in years in which he has deliberately gone back to those formative days and rediscovered exactly what the blues means – loneliness, despair, death and, ultimately, redemption.

State of Bengal is a group headed by Sam Zaman that emerged from the Asian underground music scene, which came to life at London's Anoka club. Zaman’s ensemble has made considerable contributions to the world of ethno-techno/ global-trance, combining Asian elements with traditional dance beats.
Zaman was born in India and moved on through Bangladesh, Turkey, and Jordon before landing in London's East End. The racism that he experienced during his youth turned into an outlet for his music and by 15 he was DJing at local community events. The State of Bengal was born. Its first rappers included MC Mushtaq (who went on to Fun-Da-Mental) and Zaman’s brother MC Deedar, who moved on to form the Asian Dub Foundation.

Well known as a remixer (including Massive Attack) he also opened for Bjork on her global tour and co-wrote, produced and played on Real World’s Ananda Shankar album “Walking On”. The debut album, “Visual-Audio” was released on One Little Indian in 2000. State of Bengal has continued to dj around the world.
Paban Das Baul’s velvet voice comes from a rich and melodic musical tradition of India's Bengali region. It is given a modern sensibility by Paban Das Baul, a master of the dubki (a small tambourine) and a hypnotic vocalist. Synthesizing Tantric Buddhism, Baishnavism and Sufism, Das Baul has created worldwide attention for his trance-inspiring performances. He too has recorded for Real World before, on 1997’s “Real Sugar”.
